A HISTORY OF WOMEN
PAYOT is a cosmetic brand with an international reputation, born in 1920 of the extraordinary vision of one woman: Nadia Payot. Ahead of her time, she became one of the first female doctors. Involved in the women’s rights movement, Nadia Payot early on demonstrated her commitment to using her medical, scientific and herbal expertise in the skincare products she developed.
It was a life-changing encounter that changed her vision of beauty and determined the basic principles behind her brand.
When she met prima ballerina Anna Pavlova, Nadia PAYOT understood the importance of techniques to preserve the skin’s beauty and youth. She developed and then introduced her clients to facial exercises, which were the source of the 42-Movement Massage, still performed today.
Nadia PAYOT then created a line of unique beauty treatments that acted in synergy with these application techniques. Names of legendary products such as Crème n°2 and Nutricia were introduced in the first Parisian Beauty Institute which was opened on rue Richepanse in 1925.
Born out of this creative period at the start of the 20th century, enriched by international expansion, PAYOT is one of the iconic skincare brands that have made their mark on the era and is a trailblazer in the foundations of modern cosmetics.
Today, the brand has continued to occupy the international stage, with a presence in nearly 70 countries and more than 7,500 selective points of sale, beauty institutes, spas, perfumeries, department stores and pharmacies.
A mythical jar
An original form that has evolved and adapted over time, maintaining a fully contemporary style. PAYOT has created a truly timeless jar that is recognisable to all. This jar with its contoured, ultra-feminine form has evolved over time, by moving toward colourful or silver lids, as well as bottles.
Over 100 years of expertise
Nadia Payot becomes the first female doctor of her generation and brings her vision to women’s beauty. A brand new vision full of modernity in the middle of the 1920’s, the golden age of cosmetics.
Creation of the 42-Movement Massage.
Payot is one of the first brands to open a spa in France. The brand is then entrusted to beauty professionals, beauticians working in beauty salons. Very attached to the expertise, Nadia Payot opens the first beauty school in 1947.
