AHAs: the essential active ingredient in facial peeling treatments
Recognized by dermatologists since 1970 for the treatment of acne-prone skin, α-hydroxy acids (or AHAs) are carboxylic acids derived from fruit sugars or milk. The most widely used α-hydroxy acid is glycolic acid for its unique ability to penetrate the skin and its high effectiveness in refining skin texture and improving skin renewal for a luminous complexion.
In cosmetics, this active ingredient is mainly found in creams, serums, and lotions. It is also possible to obtain it in its raw form to add it to your usual beauty routine. Note that the effects of an AHA product will only be noticeable if its concentration is 1 to 15%. It is still recommended to start AHAs at a low concentration at the beginning of treatment and gradually increase. Known as a resolutely exfoliating active ingredient, it can sometimes be irritating for certain skin types, and its use must therefore be controlled.
