This week we were lucky enough to welcome Valérie Espinasse, Micro Nutritionist, who gave us all her tips for beautiful skin during a LIVE broadcast on our Instagram account @payotofficial.

Indeed, in addition to skincare, micronutrition can be your best ally for enhancing your skin. Valérie explains that diet is one of the keys to our health and our intestinal microbiota. Indeed, urban, modern, and industrialized diets have altered our intestinal flora, with consequences for our skin.

What exactly is micronutrition?

It's the use of micronutrients: vitamins, trace elements, antioxidants, fatty acids, and plants to naturally balance our bodies. So, what do skin beauty and nutrition mean?

Valérie's #1 tip , regardless of age or skin type, is hydration. The reflex we should all have is to drink at least 1 to 2 liters of mineral water per day. Tea, coffee, juices, and sodas are no substitute for water and are often rich in food additives and often sugars.

Tip No. 2 , Choose a diet rich in fresh produce, fruits and vegetables (fresh or frozen, it doesn't matter), but avoid prepared meals!

Depending on your needs, we have selected some simple tips that are easy to add and/or modify to your diet.

Do you have blemish-prone skin?

Avoid fast-acting sugars and favor sugars with a low glycemic index. In addition, limit processed foods and ready meals. Also, consider reducing your dairy consumption. Of course, you're always allowed to indulge in a few homemade sweet desserts, just remember to cut the sugar by half sometimes; you won't notice the difference in taste, but your skin will! You can also add probiotic and prebiotic supplements to your routine, recommended by the micronutritionist, to restore our intestinal flora and therefore improve our skin flora.

Want to add a little more radiance to your skin?

Vitamins are your friends! They're essential for cell renewal. For starters, why not vitamin C? It neutralizes free radicals generated by UV rays, stress, tobacco, and pollution. It also stimulates collagen synthesis and controls melanin production. Also, favor fresh vegetables and fruits (preferably organic) because they're rich in vitamins A and C, natural antioxidants with anti-aging effects. You can also add antioxidant supplements to your routine to fight aging and loss of elasticity, as recommended by the micronutritionist.

Any anti-aging advice?

To fight against the appearance of the first wrinkles: amino acids are essential, they are used to form collagen and elastic fibers which are essential for skin firmness. Our dietary routine must provide us with proteins. They must be present in each meal, in animal or vegetable form. Proteins are present in animal products (eggs, dairy products, meat, fish) but also in plants (tofu, legumes, oilseeds). A good source of protein: fish which also provides fatty acids, omega 3 (the can of sardines will be your best ally!). For vegetarians: tofu, seitan, legumes, spirulina, oilseeds). The best is to consume proteins in all forms. Finally, don't forget: fresh and varied fruits and vegetables for their diversity in vitamins and antioxidants, which will be favored for an anti-aging effect for the skin and the body!
