The secret to soft, clear skin? Exfoliation! A key step in your facial and body beauty routine, we don't always know how to use it. What are the benefits of exfoliating your skin? How to choose and use it? How often? We'll explain everything.
Face and body scrub: what are the benefits for the skin?
Exfoliation exfoliates the skin, removing impurities and dead skin cells that accumulate on its surface daily. It stimulates cell renewal, as new, fresh skin cells replace the old ones. The result: refined skin, smoother skin texture, and a more radiant, more even complexion. It's as if the epidermis were getting a new skin.
Exfoliation also cleanses the skin and clears its pores. Sebum can then be properly removed, preventing the appearance of imperfections. By clearing the skin, exfoliation also significantly improves the penetration of skincare products.
Which scrub for my skin: take your pick!
Mechanical exfoliation, also called "grain exfoliation," is the best known and most widespread on the beauty market. As its name suggests, it is the mechanical friction of the grains it contains that removes dead skin cells. Since grain exfoliation can be a little abrasive, we like to use it to exfoliate body skin, which is thicker than facial skin. We particularly appreciate the Melting Cream Scrub Body with pistachio butter and sweet almond oil. Almond shells gently exfoliate the skin, leaving it supple and soft. Mechanical exfoliation can nevertheless be just as suitable for facial skin if it is well chosen. We want it to be gentle, with grains like Exfoliating oil jelly. Its raspberry seed jelly texture transforms into oil to capture dead skin cells without damaging the skin and transforms into a generous milk when rinsed. A true bubble of softness with its delicious floral fragrance!

The so-called "grain-free" chemical scrub is composed of acids with exfoliating properties, AHAs and BHAs. This time, the elimination of dead cells is done by chemical action. The exfoliating acids, like little Pac-Man creatures, nibble at the bonds between the dead cells, which gently peel away from the epidermis. No need to scrub the skin; the acids work on their own. Generally gentler than grain scrubs, chemical exfoliation is the preferred facial scrub. Grain-free facial scrub Gentle Exfoliating Jelly with papaya extracts and AHAs, provides gentle and effective exfoliation. Cleansed of impurities, the skin regains its radiance. Depending on your skin type and your skin concerns, it's important to choose the right molecule for your chemical peel. Salicylic acid, for example, is a real ally for blemish-prone skin thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. Glycolic acid, on the other hand, has powerful anti-aging properties. For sensitive skin, fruit enzymes are preferred.

How to optimize the benefits of exfoliation on my skin
The right frequency
Exfoliation is generally performed once or twice a week. Certain occasions are still favorable for exfoliation, such as a few days before sun exposure to benefit from a more even tan or before hair removal for better results. In all cases, an exfoliation should always be followed by a moisturizer, as it tends to dehydrate the epidermis. In addition to compensating for dryness, the moisturizer gives the exfoliation optimal results. Dead cells no longer form a barricade on the exfoliated skin, the active ingredients penetrate the epidermis more easily and their benefits are increased tenfold!
The gestures of exfoliation
Be careful, exfoliating doesn't mean stripping. The goal of exfoliating isn't to irritate the skin, which is why you need to pay attention to how your skin reacts. We're going to be gentle.
For mechanical body scrubs, vigorously massage your skin in circular motions with the palm of your hand or using a scrub mitt. Then rinse thoroughly to remove all impurities and excess scrub. Applying your scrub in a circular motion boosts blood circulation, as it mimics its natural movement.
Chemical exfoliation, on the other hand, has several specific uses. It can be applied to dry or wet skin, with or without rinsing - be sure to read the instructions carefully!
