While we all know what moisturizer is for, the question becomes more complicated when we talk about toners, lotions, and serums.
Superfluous to some, mysterious to others, these treatments are often overlooked in our beauty routines due to a lack of knowledge of when and how to use them. PAYOT tells you all about these secret weapons for a radiant complexion!
Tonic, lotion, serum, what’s that?
Lotions, toners, serums, and even toners (just to cover your tracks!) are some of the products that will be joining your beauty kit right away after reading this article! Far from being reserved for the initiated, they all aim to boost the effectiveness of the other products in your regular routine. These products are easy to use and are powerful secret weapons for taking care of your skin.
If you thought lotion was limited to treating spots, think again! Also very different from a simple spritz of thermal water, lotion is a cosmetic in its own right. The goal? To enhance the specific action of certain treatments (anti-aging, anti-blemish, radiance boost, etc.).
Toner (or tonic lotion) completes the purifying action of cleansing or makeup removal. The goal? To eliminate dead skin cells and impurities and tighten pores for a radiant complexion in the morning.
Finally, the serum is a concentrate of beauty expertise. It targets your skin's needs, whatever they may be (lifting, perfecting, mattifying, or even intensely hydrating) and complements the action of your usual skincare for increased effectiveness. The goal? To help you build your own personalized beauty ritual, for an ultra-pleasant and, above all, ultra-effective moment of well-being!
In what order do I apply my treatments?
If you're not (yet) an expert in the art of layering (i.e., the art of layering facial treatments for maximum effectiveness), follow the guide!
For the morning routine
Step 1: Start by removing overnight impurities with your facial cleanser, or even your makeup remover if necessary.
Step 2: Then apply the lotion, toner, clarifying lotion, or anti-aging lotion. Your skin will then be perfectly clean and ready to receive the other treatments in your routine. If your lotion is liquid, as is most often the case, apply it with a soaked cotton pad. For an even more invigorating effect, you can also apply it directly to your skin with a splash of your hands. A guaranteed boost of freshness when you wake up!
Step 3: Next comes the essential serum. Concentrated in active ingredients, it's easy to apply and maximizes the effectiveness of your daytime skincare. A great return on investment! Simply place a small amount in the palm of your hands and massage the product into your face.
Step 4: Apply your usual moisturizing day cream, taking the time to follow the correct steps of the Gestuelle made in Payot.
Step 5: Finally, apply your eye contour treatment by gently patting the eye contour.
For the evening routine
Go back to your morning routine, starting with a deep cleansing (have you ever tried double cleansing?), and swap your day cream for night cream. In the evening, opt for lotions with targeted action (anti-aging, anti-blemish, or moisturizing), rather than toners.
Lotion, toner, or serum... did you think you needed a cosmetics degree to incorporate them into your beauty routine? Thanks to PAYOT, you're now (almost) an expert in layering! Targeted treatments no longer hold any secrets for you. On the contrary, they're your little secret to a radiant complexion!
